BJP MLA Accuses Congress Leader of Land Grab in Jind

BJP Legislator Levels Serious Allegations Against Former Union Minister in Jind

In a significant political development in Haryana, BJP MLA from Uchana Kalan, Devender Chaturbhuj Attri, launched a scathing attack on Saturday against former Union minister and senior Congress leader Birender Singh. Addressing a press conference in Jind, Attri accused Singh of orchestrating a deceitful conversion of a college constructed on several acres of donated land into private family property.

Allegations of Community Donation Misappropriation

The BJP legislator detailed that many years ago, residents of the constituency, including his own father, collectively contributed funds and land to establish an educational institution for public benefit. Attri asserted that the college built from these generous donations was systematically transformed into private holdings by the Birender Singh family through what he described as a calculated conspiracy. He claimed the land was acquired at throwaway prices, betraying the trust of donors who envisioned the institution operating collectively for local advancement.

Broader Accusations of Developmental Neglect

Expanding his critique, Attri accused Birender Singh and his family of consistently impeding progress in Uchana Kalan across multiple sectors including education and infrastructure. The MLA contended that the family has failed to deliver substantial developmental work despite political victories, noting that they allegedly disappear from public view for extended periods after elections. He contrasted this with his own efforts, highlighting projects like the industrial model township he has championed during his short tenure.

Legal Context and Electoral Background

The allegations emerge against a backdrop of ongoing legal proceedings. Attri referenced the recent dismissal of a Special Leave Petition in the Supreme Court concerning election petition proceedings in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. He maintained that he would respect judicial decisions while keeping all legal options open, a stance he attributed equally to his political rival Brijendra Singh. Notably, Attri narrowly defeated Brijendra Singh by just 32 votes in the 2024 Haryana assembly elections, after which Singh challenged the result citing 215 invalid postal ballots among other grounds.

Political Dynasties and Public Rejection

Positioning himself as an ordinary party worker from a modest background, Attri argued that political dynasties like the Chautalas and Birender Singhs struggle to accept his rise. He mocked Birender Singh's regional moniker as the "lion of Bangar," labeling him instead a "self-styled lion" who has allegedly regressed rather than advanced the constituency. The MLA concluded that the public has decisively rejected such dynastic politics, a sentiment he extended to Brijendra Singh's recent comments about feeling "blessed" by electoral defeat.

Defense from the Accused Camp

In response to these allegations, Sajjan Singh, identified as a protector of the institutions in question, dismissed Attri's claims as entirely baseless. He clarified that the Birender Singh College of Nursing operates under a trust that accepted no donations, while Rajiv Gandhi College is managed by a society comprising 28 members, suggesting proper institutional frameworks are in place.
