BJP's Nagenthran & Annamalai Unite to Defeat DMK in Tamil Nadu Polls
BJP Leaders Vow to Defeat DMK in Tamil Nadu Assembly Election

In a significant political move, the Bharatiya Janata Party's state president, Nainar Nagenthran, declared on Monday that he would join forces with former state party chief K Annamalai to ensure the defeat of the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government in the upcoming Tamil Nadu assembly election.

Campaign Launch in Coimbatore

Nagenthran made this announcement while addressing a gathering in Malumichampatti, Coimbatore. The event was part of the BJP's statewide campaign titled "Tamilagam Thalai Nimira, Tamilanin Payanam." He confidently predicted a crushing defeat for the DMK in the impending electoral battle.

Highlighting past performance, the BJP leader pointed out that although the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) did not secure victory in the 2021 state election, it achieved a clean sweep in the Coimbatore district. The alliance won all 10 seats in the district, a feat Nagenthran asserted would be repeated in the next election. He expressed strong confidence that the NDA would win a majority of seats across Tamil Nadu and form the next government.

Countering DMK's Tamil Narrative

In a direct attack on the DMK's core political plank, Nagenthran accused the party of pretending to be the sole champion of the Tamil language. He countered this by crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi for promoting Tamil nationally. Nagenthran cited the introduction of Tamil teaching in Uttar Pradesh schools and the establishment of Tamil Sangams in various parts of the country as evidence of the central government's commitment.

He further claimed to have sensed widespread public anger against the current state government during his campaign travels. To bolster his critique on governance, Nagenthran drew a comparison between the previous and current administrations. He stated that the AIADMK government, led by Edappadi K Palaniswami, had established 11 medical colleges in Tamil Nadu. In contrast, he alleged that the incumbent government under Chief Minister M K Stalin has not set up any new medical college.

The Road Ahead for NDA

The public declaration of a united front between the current and former state presidents, Nagenthran and Annamalai, is seen as a strategic move to consolidate the party's base and present a cohesive leadership. Their combined effort is aimed at capitalizing on perceived anti-incumbency and positioning the NDA as a viable alternative in Tamil Nadu's political landscape, where the BJP has been working to expand its footprint.

The upcoming assembly election in Tamil Nadu is shaping up to be a high-stakes contest, with the BJP-led NDA aiming to break the longstanding dominance of the Dravidian parties. The focus on Coimbatore's past performance and the emphasis on development issues like healthcare infrastructure indicate the key planks of the alliance's campaign strategy.
