The Bihar state government has issued a fresh 15-day ultimatum to former Chief Minister Rabri Devi and her family members, directing them to vacate the official residence located at 10 Circular Road in Patna. The Building Construction Department has also served notices to several former ministers, including Rabri Devi, instructing them to vacate their government accommodations.
Strict Enforcement of Rules
The department has made it clear that ministers who are no longer in office are required to vacate government housing allotted under the general pool residential accommodation within 15 days. According to sources, action will be taken in accordance with existing regulations. Officials stated that it is mandatory to vacate government accommodation within a stipulated time-frame after a minister's term ends. Failure to comply will result in the matter being referred to the competent authority, which may impose fines or take other administrative measures as per rules.
Ensuring Better Management
Officials added that the move aims to ensure better management of government housing and timely allotment to current office-bearers. The department indicated that such strict enforcement will continue in the future to ensure compliance with norms. This action is part of a broader effort to streamline the allocation of official residences and ensure that former officials do not occupy them beyond their tenure.
The notices come amid ongoing scrutiny of government accommodations and their usage by former public representatives. The Bihar government has been taking steps to recover official bungalows and houses from former ministers and officials who have not vacated them after leaving office.
