Bihar Government Directs Agencies to Accelerate Four Major Infrastructure Projects
The Bihar state government issued directives on Monday, urging agencies responsible for executing four high-value infrastructure projects to significantly increase their manpower, equipment, and machinery. This move aims to ensure the timely completion of these critical developments, which include two irrigation projects and two mega bridges spanning the Ganga River.
Review of Mega Bridge Projects
Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit conducted a comprehensive review of the progress on these projects with senior officials from the water resources department and the bridge construction corporation. District officials and representatives of the executing agencies also participated in this crucial meeting.
Regarding the Bakhtiarpur-Tajpur bridge, valued at Rs 1,822 crore, Amrit emphasized the necessity for the executing agency to augment the number of equipment and manpower. "The executing agency must increase the number of equipment and manpower required to fast-pace the work without compromising quality so that the project is completed by May 2027," he stated.
For the Sultanganj-Aguwani Ghat bridge, Amrit directed the agency to boost equipment and manpower to complete the approach road work by May of this year. He stressed that no compromises should be made in the overall construction quality of the bridge. Additionally, he requested the immediate submission of safety audit and integrity test reports for pillars 13 to 16.
Progress on Irrigation Initiatives
The irrigation projects under review include the North Koel Reservoir Project (NKRP), with an estimated cost of Rs 1,367 crore, being implemented in Gaya and Aurangabad districts. Land acquisition for this project is in its final stages. In Aurangabad, most of the required 41.251 hectares has been acquired, and officials have been directed to complete the remaining acquisition by April 30. A similar target has been established for Gaya.
The second irrigation project is the Mandaee project, valued at Rs 232 crore, which involves the construction of a weir along with right and left main canal systems. For this initiative, Amrit instructed that earthwork and canal lining must be completed before the onset of the monsoon season to avoid delays.
Emphasis on Timely Execution and Quality
The state government's directives underscore a strong commitment to accelerating infrastructure development while maintaining high standards of quality and safety. By increasing resources and setting clear deadlines, authorities aim to overcome potential bottlenecks and ensure these projects contribute effectively to Bihar's growth and connectivity.
These projects are pivotal for enhancing irrigation capabilities and improving transportation networks across the Ganga, which will have significant economic and social impacts on the region.
