Bihar CM Orders Airport Development Plan for All Districts

Bihar Chief Minister Mandates Comprehensive Airport Development Plan for All Districts

In a significant move to enhance aviation infrastructure, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has issued a directive to officials to prepare a detailed and comprehensive plan for the development of airports in every district across the state of Bihar. The Chief Minister emphasized that safety protocols and quality standards must remain the central focus of all aviation projects, ensuring robust and reliable facilities for passengers and operators alike.

Aerocity Projects to Drive Economic Growth and Tourism

Chairing a high-level review meeting of the civil aviation department at the Chief Minister's Secretariat, Choudhary highlighted that the state government is advancing with concrete and actionable initiatives for Aerocity projects. These ambitious projects are designed to develop commercial, hospitality, logistics, and tourism-related infrastructure around major airports. The primary objective is to generate wider economic opportunities while simultaneously improving aviation facilities, thereby creating a synergistic effect on the state's economy.

The Chief Minister stated that the Bihar government is firmly committed to strengthening air connectivity across the region. This commitment is closely tied to promoting tourism and attracting substantial investment from both domestic and international sources. Choudhary added that enhanced aviation infrastructure would not only accelerate economic growth but also improve access to remote and underserved regions, fostering balanced development throughout Bihar.

Prioritizing International Connectivity and Infrastructure Upgrades

During the meeting, Civil Aviation Department Secretary Nilesh Ramchandra Deore provided a comprehensive presentation, briefing the Chief Minister on the ongoing efforts to strengthen air infrastructure and expand international connectivity. Deore outlined that key priorities include airport development, aviation training programs, disaster management preparedness, and the efficient operation of VIP flight services.

Deore further elaborated that an ambitious policy framework has been established to expand international air connectivity. Significant steps are currently underway to launch direct flights from Patna and Gaya airports to multiple overseas destinations. This initiative is expected to greatly benefit business travelers and boost tourism, positioning Bihar as a more accessible and attractive destination on the global map.

Focus on Regional Airports and Urban Development Initiatives

The Chief Minister also underscored the special focus being given to smaller and regional airports across the state. He noted that rapid progress is being made in critical areas such as runway expansion, terminal construction, and operational enhancements under the UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik) scheme. Once these projects are completed, they are projected to significantly boost regional connectivity and accelerate balanced development, ensuring that all parts of Bihar benefit from improved air travel options.

In a related review of the Urban Development and Housing Department, Choudhary directed officials to concentrate on long-term planning for the expansion of existing cities. Urban Development and Housing Department Principal Secretary Vinay Kumar presented a detailed roadmap for the development of 11 satellite or greenfield townships, with adequate space reserved for future expansion to accommodate growing urban populations.

Kumar explained that the government will invest in essential public infrastructure, including roads and drainage systems. Urban development will be carried out through private investment under a master plan grid, ensuring that at least 55% of land is returned to landowners, promoting equitable growth and community involvement. The Chief Minister directed that city maps for cleanliness, traffic management, and expansion be digitized and made publicly accessible, aiming to improve the ease of living for all residents across Bihar.
