Barjinder Singh Brar Exits SAD (Punar Surjit) with Explosive Allegations
In a dramatic political development, Barjinder Singh Brar, son of former minister Tota Singh, resigned from the Shiromani Akali Dal (Punar Surjit) on Saturday. He leveled serious accusations against party president Giani Harpreet Singh and MLA Manpreet Singh Ayali, alleging they are acting on the directives of central agencies.
Resignation and Regret Over Party Switch
Brar announced his resignation through a social media post, expressing deep disappointment and stating he made the decision with a heavy heart. He also publicly repented his earlier move to leave the original Shiromani Akali Dal and join SAD (Punar Surjit), indicating a sense of disillusionment with the party's current leadership.
His political journey includes two unsuccessful attempts as the Shiromani Akali Dal nominee from the Moga Assembly constituency in 2017 and 2022. Prior to this, his father Tota Singh had contested from Moga but vacated the seat for his son in 2012, shifting to Dharmkot. However, the party initially fielded Joginder Pal Jain from Moga before eventually nominating Brar in the subsequent elections.
Allegations of Misleading Path and Conspiracy
In his resignation statement, Brar accused Giani Harpreet Singh and Manpreet Ayali of misleading the party and Punjab. He claimed they have been emotionally manipulating people in the name of the Akal Takht, a key Sikh religious seat. Brar further alleged a broader conspiracy involving central agencies and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab, asserting that these forces are using various tactics to weaken both the Panth (Sikh community) and the Shiromani Akali Dal.
Specifically, he criticized Ayali for allegedly remaining silent on critical issues and speaking against the Akali Dal only to serve his business interests. Regarding Giani Harpreet Singh, Brar accused him of working on directions from Delhi to demolish the Shiromani Akali Dal from within.
Response from Accused Leaders
Manpreet Singh Ayali responded to the allegations by stating that making accusations in politics is easy, but standing firm for truth is challenging. He reaffirmed his commitment to working for the welfare of the qaum (community) according to the tenets of the Akal Takht, acknowledging that some close associates may leave when treading the path of truth, but his resolve remains steadfast.
Giani Harpreet Singh was not available for comment at the time of the report, leaving his side of the story unaddressed publicly.
Political Implications and Future Moves
This resignation marks a significant setback for SAD (Punar Surjit), potentially exposing internal rifts and raising questions about the party's direction. Brar's allegations of external interference could fuel debates on political integrity and autonomy in Punjab. Observers are closely watching for any further developments, including possible legal actions or shifts in party alliances, as this controversy unfolds in the volatile landscape of Punjab politics.
