In 2016, he created political history by becoming the first BJP candidate ever to win from Tingkhong, unseating three-time sitting Congress MLA Atuwa Munda by an impressive margin of 18,338 votes. Borah polled 57,072 votes against Munda's 38,734 in that landmark victory. He repeated this dominant performance in 2021, defeating Munda once again by an even more substantial margin of 28,394 votes, garnering 62,675 votes compared to Munda's 34,281.
"I have worked tirelessly for the people of Tingkhong for ten years and the results are there for everyone to see," declared Borah, who holds a cabinet portfolio in the Himanta Biswa Sarma government. "Every road is blacktopped, every bridge is pucca — we have transformed this constituency from the ground up."
Residents across the constituency generally corroborate this assessment of development progress. Tingkhong, which previously suffered from crumbling road infrastructure and depended heavily on bamboo and wooden bridges, has undergone noticeable transformation during Borah's two terms. Roads have been systematically upgraded, sturdy pucca bridges have replaced precarious crossings, and overall civic infrastructure has improved substantially. However, one persistent challenge continues to affect several pockets of the constituency — seasonal flooding and river erosion caused by the River Buridehing during monsoon months, which local residents emphasize still requires urgent and lasting attention from authorities.
