Assam Polls: CEO Reviews Dibrugarh's Election Preparedness

Assam's Chief Electoral Officer Conducts Pre-Election Inspection in Dibrugarh

With the announcement of the Assam assembly election dates anticipated imminently, state Chief Electoral Officer Anurag Goel made a crucial visit to Dibrugarh on Friday to assess the district administration's poll preparedness. This proactive move underscores the Election Commission's commitment to ensuring a smooth and transparent electoral process across the state.

Strategic Venue Designated for Electoral Operations

Accompanied by Dibrugarh Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Bikram Kairi, Goel thoroughly inspected Dibrugarh Polytechnic, which has been officially designated as the venue for the strong room and vote counting for all six assembly constituencies under Dibrugarh district. These constituencies include Lahowal, Dibrugarh, Duliajan, Naharkatia, Tingkhong, and Khowang. The facility is set to become the nerve centre of the electoral process in the district, responsible for the secure storage of electronic voting machines and the final counting of votes, thereby playing a pivotal role in determining the democratic outcome.

Comprehensive Discussions on Infrastructural Arrangements

During the inspection, Goel engaged in detailed discussions with officials regarding a wide range of infrastructural arrangements essential for the elections. Key areas of focus included:

  • The strong room, where EVMs will be stored under high security.
  • The distribution and receiving centre for polling materials, ensuring timely and efficient logistics.
  • The counting centre, where votes will be tallied with precision and transparency.

Emphasis was placed on ensuring that all logistical requirements are met well in advance of the formal announcement of poll dates, to avoid any last-minute disruptions and uphold the integrity of the electoral process.

Enhanced Security and Surveillance Measures

Goel specifically scrutinised the arrangements by the PWD (Building) department, stressing that the strong rooms must be foolproof and under 24/7 surveillance to prevent any tampering or unauthorized access. The presence of key officials during the visit, such as Dibrugarh SSP Abhijit Gurav, co-DCs Jayant Charan and Parikshit Phukan, Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation commissioner Jay Vikas, election officer Pranjal Gogoi, and representatives from the Public Works Department and other concerned departments, highlighted the collaborative effort to fortify election security and operational efficiency.

This inspection marks a critical step in Assam's electoral preparations, as authorities work diligently to create a robust framework for the upcoming assembly elections, ensuring they are conducted fairly and without incident.
