Assam Chief Minister Accuses West Bengal Government of Diverting Resources to Bangladeshi Infiltrators
In a strongly worded political address, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a scathing attack on the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government on Saturday. Speaking at a rally in Kalimpong, the senior BJP leader accused the state administration of systematically diverting public funds and resources to benefit what he termed "Bangladeshi Muslim infiltrators."
Allegations of Resource Misallocation and Political Motives
Sarma claimed that the entire treasury of West Bengal has been earmarked specifically for Bangladeshi Muslim infiltrators under the current government's policies. "Mamata Banerjee has sold this land to Bangladeshi Muslims for votes," he alleged during his speech, suggesting that political calculations rather than state welfare guided resource allocation decisions.
The BJP leader contrasted this situation with what he described as successful border management in states governed by his party. "Governments led by the BJP in Assam and Tripura have effectively prevented the entry of Bangladeshi Muslims into India," Sarma asserted, while claiming that illegal immigration continues unabated across the West Bengal border.
Call for Political Change and Security Warnings
Sarma issued a stark warning about the potential consequences of continued TMC governance in West Bengal. "We have to remove Mamata Banerjee as Bengal chief minister, otherwise one day Bangladeshi Muslims will take away the state from us," he declared to rally attendees.
The Assam chief minister painted a dire picture of what he characterized as Bengal's deterioration under Banerjee's leadership, alleging that she has "destroyed the entire Bengal" since assuming office. He specifically pointed to what he described as inadequate development in northern regions of the state as evidence of governance failures.
BJP's Promises for West Bengal's Future
Positioning his party as the solution to these alleged problems, Sarma made several commitments should the BJP gain power in West Bengal:
- Immediate action against illegal immigrants: "Once the BJP forms a government in Bengal, we will kick out all Bangladeshi infiltrators from this region."
- Constitutional resolution to regional issues: The BJP would pursue a constitutional solution to the long-standing Gorkhaland issue.
- Justice for Gorkha community: The party promised to "ensure justice for Gorkhas" if voted to power in the state.
Sarma's remarks represent a significant escalation in political rhetoric between the BJP and TMC, with immigration and border security emerging as central themes in the ongoing political contest for West Bengal. The allegations come amid persistent debates about border management, citizenship policies, and resource allocation in eastern Indian states sharing boundaries with Bangladesh.
