Assam BJP President Calls for Massive Victory in Golokganj Constituency
In a significant political address near the India-Bangladesh border, Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia rallied supporters at the Lakhimari High School playground in Dhubri district's Golokganj assembly constituency on Monday. The event, strategically timed, coincided with the Bharatiya Janata Party's 46th foundation day, marking its establishment on April 6, 1980.
A Pledge for Political Change
Saikia made a direct appeal to the gathering, urging them to take a solemn pledge. "Please first take a pledge on the 46th foundation day of BJP that you will send party candidate Ashwani Roy Sarkar from Golokganj to Dispur with a huge margin of votes," he emphasized, setting a clear electoral target for the upcoming assembly contest.
Addressing Past Disappointments and Development Concerns
The BJP leader acknowledged the palpable discontent among Golokganj residents, noting their frustration over failing to elect their preferred party candidate in the 2021 elections. Saikia expressed deep concern about the perceived lack of development over the past five years, directly criticizing the incumbent Congress legislator.
"Sitting in the opposition, Congress legislator couldn't do any development," Saikia stated, highlighting what he described as a pattern of neglect. He further launched a broader historical critique, alleging that 55 years of Congress misrule had devastated multiple sectors across the state, leaving a legacy of underdevelopment.
Contrasting BJP's Development Record
In stark contrast, Saikia vigorously defended the BJP's governance since coming to power in Assam in 2016. He presented a comprehensive list of achievements, asserting that the party had initiated transformative infrastructure and social projects.
- Construction of new bridges and roads
- Establishment of colleges, universities, and engineering institutions
- Significant improvements in the healthcare sector
Beyond physical infrastructure, Saikia argued that the BJP government had ushered in an era of socio-economic development. "Apart from ushering in an era of development, it also opened the gate to socio-economic development along with various social welfare schemes benefiting the poor and poverty-stricken people of the state," he declared, positioning the party as a champion of the marginalized.
Strategic Implications for Dhubri District
The rally in the border constituency of Golokganj holds considerable strategic importance. By invoking the party's foundation day and directly linking it to electoral commitment, Saikia aimed to:
- Mobilize core BJP supporters through symbolic association
- Address local grievances about development stagnation
- Contrast the BJP's active governance with the opposition's perceived inaction
- Build momentum for candidate Ashwani Roy Sarkar's campaign
The message was clear: a vote for the BJP represents not just political choice, but a commitment to continued development and welfare, framed against a narrative of past congressional failure.
