PMK Leader Anbumani Ramadoss Launches Election Campaign with Sharp Critique of DMK
In a fiery campaign speech on Friday, PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss launched his election campaign for candidate K Balu after offering prayers at the Thiruporur Kandaswamy Murugan temple in Chennai. He leveled serious allegations against the ruling DMK, accusing the party of reducing dalits to a "mere vote bank" without ensuring their real welfare or empowerment.
Allegations of Political Exploitation and Neglect
Anbumani Ramadoss asserted that the DMK is exploiting dalits for electoral gains while failing to deliver justice or dignity. He highlighted that the DMK has been allocating six to eight seats for VCK president Thol Thirumavalavan, but argued this tokenism does not translate into genuine empowerment for the dalit community. "In the Cabinet, DMK gave limited importance to Scheduled Caste ministers by making them sit in the last row," he said, recalling instances such as the seats given to Puratchi Bharatham MLA Poovai M Jagan Moorthy and Tamil Manila Bajuhan Samaj party founder Porkodi Armstrong to illustrate his point.
Concerns Over Rising Crime and Social Justice Decline
Beyond political representation, Anbumani raised alarming statistics on public safety. He stated that there have been more than 62,000 crimes against children in the past five years, including 27,000 cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, averaging about 35 cases per day. "The state has become unsafe for women and children," he warned, linking this to broader governance failures.
He further claimed that social justice has declined in the DMK since the demise of the late chief minister M Karunanidhi, suggesting a departure from the party's historical commitments. "Social justice declined in DMK after the demise of the late chief minister M Karunanidhi," he added, emphasizing a perceived erosion of values under the current leadership.
Campaign Context and Broader Implications
This campaign launch marks a significant moment in the upcoming elections, with Anbumani positioning the PMK as a voice against what he describes as systemic neglect. His comments reflect ongoing tensions in Tamil Nadu politics, where issues of caste representation and social welfare remain highly contentious. The allegations underscore a critical debate about the effectiveness of political alliances and the real impact on marginalized communities, setting the stage for a heated electoral battle focused on accountability and inclusive governance.
