Kamaraj polled a massive 1,03,462 votes, securing victory with a commanding margin of 41,724 votes after all 25 rounds of EVM counting were completed. DMK candidate Mohamed Mubarak finished second with 61,738 votes. Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) nominee S. Prabhakaran came in third with 54,530 votes.
