AIADMK Leader Vows to Investigate DMK's Pre-Election Tenders Upon Return to Power
In a sharp critique of the ruling DMK government, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami has declared that all tenders for projects issued "in haste" ahead of the upcoming Tamil Nadu assembly elections will be "thoroughly scrutinised" if his party regains power. Speaking at a public meeting in Chrompet on Thursday, Palaniswami raised serious doubts over the tender process, accusing the state government of rushing approvals to benefit from commissions and collections as the election nears.
Allegations of Corruption and Deception
Palaniswami asserted, "People are being deceived. With elections approaching, it is all about commission, collection and corruption." He emphasized that the DMK's hurried issuance of tenders is a tactic to secure funds through corrupt practices, undermining transparency and public trust. This statement comes amid growing concerns about electoral integrity and governance standards in the state.
Rejection of CM Stalin's Claims
Further escalating the political rhetoric, Palaniswami dismissed Chief Minister M K Stalin's characterization of the assembly election as a contest between Tamil Nadu and Delhi. "This is a Tamil Nadu assembly election. The parliamentary election ended in 2024. The choice now is about who should govern the state," he stated, redirecting focus to local governance issues rather than national politics. He also criticized the DMK for using official government events to disseminate political messages, urging that such activities be confined to party platforms. "If you want to speak politics, do it at party meetings," he advised, highlighting a call for ethical political conduct.
Call for Voter Assessment and Alliance Talks
Concluding his address, Palaniswami appealed to voters to evaluate the performance of successive governments before casting their ballots. "Talk about our 10 years from 2011 to 2021 and your years in power. Let the people give their verdict," he said, encouraging a comparative analysis of AIADMK's previous tenure versus the current DMK administration. Meanwhile, in a strategic move, Palaniswami has initiated meetings with smaller NDA allies, including A C Shanmugham, John Pandian, and Paarivendar, to assess their seat demands ahead of formal coalition talks, signaling preparations for a united opposition front in the elections.
