AIADMK Reasserts NDA Leadership in Tamil Nadu Amid Election Campaign
In a forceful address during a campaign rally in R K Nagar, Chennai, AIADMK general secretary and former chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami unequivocally reiterated that his party is at the helm of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Tamil Nadu. He launched a sharp critique against current Chief Minister M K Stalin, accusing him of attempting to frame the upcoming Assembly election as a divisive "Tamil Nadu versus Delhi" confrontation.
Palaniswami Questions Stalin's Apprehension Over Delhi Visits
"I am stating this clearly once and for all: AIADMK is leading the alliance here," Palaniswami declared to the gathered supporters. He took a direct jab at Stalin, demanding an explanation for why the DMK leader appears "scared" whenever he travels to Delhi. "What is inherently wrong with visiting the national capital? Perhaps his anxiety stems from the corruption scandals his administration has been involved in," Palaniswami speculated, insinuating that DMK's nervousness is linked to potential exposure of malpractices.
He further pointed to the recent reactions from DMK ministers following his campaign event in Mylapore as evidence of the ruling party's growing fear of being unseated in the April 23 election. According to Palaniswami, these responses indicate a deep-seated apprehension within DMK ranks about losing power.
Addressing Internal Challenges and Accusations of Dynasty Politics
Without explicitly naming former AIADMK leaders like O Panneerselvam, who recently defected to DMK, Palaniswami referenced past attempts to destabilize the AIADMK government after the demise of former chief minister J Jayalalithaa. He proudly asserted that the AIADMK administration under his leadership successfully withstood these challenges, while those who abandoned the party have now aligned with the opposition camp.
During his campaign in Tiruvottiyur for party candidate K Kuppan, Palaniswami escalated his attacks by accusing DMK of promoting dynastic politics and alleging a significant deterioration in law and order under the current government. "DMK secured victory in the previous election through a series of false promises, but the electorate is now fully prepared to oust this administration," he claimed, expressing confidence in a voter backlash.
Promises of Development and Anti-Drug Measures
Reflecting on the legacy of R K Nagar, a constituency once represented by Jayalalithaa that has benefited from numerous development initiatives, Palaniswami pledged to introduce additional projects for the region if AIADMK regains office. He also made a firm commitment to tackle the drug menace, vowing to take stern action against drug peddlers and curb the free flow of narcotics across the state.
