The AIADMK-BJP alliance has significantly ramped up its electioneering activities in the Coimbatore North assembly constituency, even as its official candidate, Vanathi Srinivasan, remains hospitalized due to health concerns. Despite her absence from the campaign trail, the political coalition is leveraging a robust network of leaders, family members, and grassroots workers to maintain momentum in this crucial electoral battleground.
Vanathi Srinivasan's Health Setback and Campaign Adjustments
Vanathi Srinivasan, who had been actively campaigning after filing her nomination, was admitted to the hospital on April 10 due to a leg swelling condition. This unexpected development has necessitated a strategic shift in the alliance's outreach efforts. In her stead, former BJP state president K Annamalai and Vanathi's elder son, Adarsh, have taken charge of campaigning across the constituency, engaging with voters through extensive door-to-door visits.
Family Involvement and Grassroots Mobilization
Adding to the campaign vigor, Vanathi's younger son, Kailash, joined the efforts on Monday, conducting an intensive door-to-door campaign. Kailash, who is currently pursuing his studies in London, returned to Coimbatore specifically after his mother was announced as the candidate. Addressing residents, he emphasized, "My mother will recover soon and return to serve the people. Until then, I am here knocking on your doors as her representative." This personal touch has been complemented by the active involvement of AIADMK cadres, alliance partners, and Shakti Kendra in-charges, as noted by BJP state media secretary P Sowmiyarani.
Furthermore, intensive canvassing is being coordinated under the leadership of AIADMK functionary R Chandrasekar, ensuring a cohesive and widespread outreach. Despite her hospitalization, Vanathi made a notable appearance at an event attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, demonstrating her ongoing political engagement. She expressed heartfelt gratitude to party workers and the public for their concern over her health, stating that she remains thankful for their prayers and unwavering support.

After the seat was allotted to the BJP, a contest for candidature emerged between K Annamalai and Vanathi Srinivasan, with the latter ultimately being declared the candidate, highlighting the strategic negotiations within the alliance.
