In a concerning development, residents of Safiyan village in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district allegedly spotted two armed terror suspects on Monday morning. This sighting has triggered an extensive security response, with personnel launching search operations across multiple border areas in the district to locate the individuals.

According to officials, villagers reported seeing the duo carrying heavy backpacks as they moved from Safiyan towards the dense forests of Ambanall in Rajbagh. Upon receiving this information, a joint team comprising the Army, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Jammu and Kashmir Police swiftly initiated a cordon-and-search operation in the area. However, despite these efforts, no trace of the suspects has been found so far, leaving authorities on high alert.
Expansion of Combing Operations
In response to the potential threat, security forces have expanded their combing operations to include several other locations in Kathua. Similar searches are now underway in Panjtirthi, Bhini Nallah, Barota, and adjoining areas within the Ramkote sector. In March last year, Safiyan was the site of a fierce, day-long firefight between terrorists and security forces in the Jakhole area. That confrontation resulted in the tragic deaths of four policemen and the elimination of three Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists, with seven other officers, including a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP), sustaining injuries.
Geographically, the region is strategically significant as it lies on the axis of a traditional infiltration route. This path is often used by ultras to move towards the upper reaches of Kathua, proceeding to Udhampur, and then to Doda and Kishtwar, ultimately reaching the Kashmir Valley.
