Ahmedabad Hit-and-Run Tragedy: Pedestrian Killed by Dumper Near Vadaj Circle
In a tragic incident that has shocked the city, a pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run accident involving a dumper near Vadaj Circle in Ahmedabad during the early hours of Wednesday. The event triggered a frantic chase by locals who attempted to intercept the vehicle but were unsuccessful in stopping it, highlighting growing concerns over road safety in the area.
Details of the Fatal Accident
The victim, identified as Dhiren Parmar, 37, a resident of Hanumanpura in old Vadaj, had stepped out early in the morning and was returning home after having tea when the accident occurred around 5:30 AM. According to police reports, a speeding dumper struck him near the circle and fled the scene immediately after the collision. The impact resulted in severe head and body injuries, leading to his death on the spot.
Witnesses at the scene described a chaotic aftermath, with locals rushing to help and some mounting two-wheelers to chase the dumper through nearby roads. Despite their efforts, the driver managed to escape, leaving the community in distress and anger over the reckless act.
Police Investigation and Legal Action
Based on a complaint filed by his wife, Bhavna Parmar, the B Division traffic police have registered an offence of hit-and-run against the unidentified driver of the dumper, which bears a Gujarat registration number. The case has been filed under sections related to causing death by negligence, rash driving, and failure to stop and assist the victim under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act.
Officials have confirmed that CCTV footage from the area is being examined to identify the driver and trace the vehicle. Further investigation is underway, with authorities emphasizing the seriousness of the incident under the new legal framework aimed at enhancing road safety and accountability.

In separate incidents highlighting ongoing traffic concerns in the city, a car climbed onto a footpath in Jamalpur late on Tuesday night, and a motorcycle hit a scooter in Navrangpura, leaving one person seriously injured in the early hours of Wednesday. Police have begun inquiries in both cases, underscoring the need for increased vigilance and enforcement on Ahmedabad's roads.
