A shocking execution-style killing has sent shockwaves through Punjab's Tarn Taran district, where an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) village head was murdered in cold blood at a wedding ceremony. The brazen attack, captured on chilling CCTV footage, shows two assailants walking calmly into the venue and shooting the victim at point-blank range.
The Brazen Attack Caught on Camera
The incident occurred at the Marigold Marriage Palace on Sunday, between 2:30 pm and 3 pm. The victim, Jarmal Singh, the sarpanch of Valtoha village, was attending a wedding function. According to police, the attack took place shortly after the bride and groom had departed.
The CCTV clip reveals a horrifying sequence. Two gunmen enter the wedding venue and approach Singh without any haste. One of them pulls out a pistol from his waist, walks directly up to the AAP leader, and fires a single shot to his head from point-blank range. Singh collapses instantly. The assailants then flee the resort within seconds, leaving the wedding guests in a state of shock and terror.
"The manner of the attack suggests premeditation. The victim appears to have been under surveillance," stated a police official involved in the investigation. Notably, the attackers made no attempt to conceal their identities despite the presence of dozens of guests, indicating extreme audacity.
Investigation and Gangster Claim
Jarmal Singh was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his grievous injury. The police investigation moved swiftly into high gear. Amritsar Deputy Commissioner of Police (Investigation) Ravinder Pal Singh Sandhu confirmed the case was being probed from all angles, assuring that the culprits would be arrested soon.
Adding a grim dimension to the case, a purported social media post by gangster Prabh Dasuwal, along with associates Donny Bal and others, claimed responsibility for the killing. This claim is now a central focus of the police probe.
Authorities have sealed the marriage palace and are meticulously examining CCTV footage to trace the escape route of the killers. Police are also scrutinizing a photograph that allegedly shows the attackers. Additional Deputy Commissioner JS Walia provided these updates, highlighting the evidence collection process.
Tragically, police records reveal this was not the first attempt on Singh's life. The slain sarpanch had survived three earlier assassination attempts, pointing to a long-standing threat to his life.
Political Reactions and Law & Order Questions
The murder has ignited a political firestorm, with the opposition sharply criticizing the ruling AAP government in Punjab over the state's law and order situation. Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal strongly condemned the killing.
Badal stated that this public shooting, part of a spate of similar incidents, reflects a breakdown of law and order under the Bhagwant Mann-led government. He asserted that the state government must be held accountable for the deteriorating security environment that allows such brazen crimes to occur.
The killing of a public representative in a crowded social gathering has raised serious concerns about the safety of political workers and the challenge of gangster violence in the region. The police's promise of swift arrests is now being closely watched by a concerned public.
