7 dead as hospital wall collapses in Bengaluru rains

At least seven people were killed and several others injured when a perimeter wall of Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital collapsed in Bengaluru on Tuesday following heavy rainfall. The incident occurred near the hospital's casualty ward, trapping several individuals under the debris.

Rescue operations underway

Emergency teams, including firefighters and police personnel, rushed to the spot and launched rescue operations. So far, seven bodies have been recovered, and the injured have been shifted to the hospital for treatment. Authorities fear the death toll may rise as search efforts continue.

Heavy rains lash Bengaluru

The city has been experiencing incessant rains over the past few days, leading to waterlogging and structural damage in several areas. The wall collapse is one of the worst incidents reported during this monsoon season. Local residents reported that the wall had shown signs of weakening earlier, but no preventive action was taken.

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar visited the site and announced compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of the deceased. He also ordered a probe into the incident and instructed officials to inspect other vulnerable structures in the city.

The hospital administration has been asked to ensure safety measures are in place to prevent such tragedies in the future. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department has forecast more rainfall in the region over the next 24 hours, raising concerns about further incidents.
