In a significant push to modernize public transit, the Uttarakhand Transport Corporation (UTC) substantially expanded its operational strength on Thursday. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami formally flagged off a fleet of 100 brand-new buses at a ceremony held at his camp office in Dehradun.
A Multi-Pronged Fleet Enhancement
The major induction of a hundred buses forms the core of this upgrade initiative. However, the government's commitment extends further. Alongside these, 10 air-conditioned buses and two sleeper coaches, which are operated on a contractual basis, were also dedicated to public service. This diverse addition caters to different passenger needs, from daily commutes to longer overnight journeys.
During the event, CM Dhami also released the transport corporation's memorabilia titled 'Anvarat' and a calendar focused on the crucial theme of road safety. The program included a moment to honor and felicitate UTC employees who had demonstrated exceptional performance under difficult and challenging circumstances.
Infrastructure Development and Future Plans
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister emphasized the state government's sustained efforts to bolster the transport corporation. He provided concrete details on infrastructure progress, stating, "So far, the construction of more than 13 new bus stands and workshops has been completed, while work is underway at 14 other locations, including four Inter-State Bus Terminals (ISBTs)."
Looking ahead, Dhami revealed plans for a greener future for public mobility in the state. He announced that electric buses would soon be integrated into the UTC fleet, marking a step towards sustainable transport.
Impact on Connectivity and State Growth
The Chief Minister elaborated on the expected benefits of this large-scale fleet expansion. He highlighted that these new vehicles, equipped with contemporary technology, are poised to significantly strengthen Uttarakhand's public transport system. Passengers can look forward to safer, more convenient, and affordable travel options across the state.
Beyond daily commuting, the enhanced connectivity is projected to give fresh momentum to various sectors. The improved transport network is expected to positively impact the state's economic activities, social integration, and tourism potential, making remote areas more accessible to visitors and boosting local economies.
This fleet expansion represents a critical investment in Uttarakhand's physical and economic infrastructure, aiming to provide reliable public service while supporting broader developmental goals.
