YouTube Takes Action Against SGPC Channel

The official YouTube channel of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has been suspended for one week by the video platform. This action was taken on Wednesday, November 20, 2025, under YouTube's policy enforcement measures.

Content That Triggered the Suspension

According to a statement released by the SGPC secretary, the suspension was directly linked to a specific video uploaded on October 31, 2025. The video featured a Sikh preacher who, while speaking about Sikh warriors, made references to the events of 1984. The SGPC has described these historical events as an integral part of Sikh history.

Sources indicate that the preacher's commentary also included remarks concerning the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The 1984 Indian Army action inside the Golden Temple complex in Amritsar remains a deeply significant and sensitive chapter in India's history.

SGPC's Response and Alternative for Devotees

In response to the suspension, the SGPC has stated that it will present its viewpoint to YouTube and is actively engaging with the platform to resolve the matter. The affected channel, @SGPCSriAmritsar, is primarily used to relay the live telecast of Gurbani Kirtan from the sanctum sanctorum, Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib.

The committee has made an urgent appeal to the global Sikh community, or Sangat. Until the primary channel is restored, devotees are requested to connect to the daily live telecast of Gurbani Kirtan through SGPC's other official YouTube channel, "Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee", which is available at youtube.com/@officialsgpc.

The one-week restriction highlights the ongoing challenges digital platforms face in moderating content related to historical and political events, especially those that evoke strong sentiments.
