The Yamunanagar district administration has intensified its crackdown on illegal mining, resulting in the seizure of 62 vehicles and the registration of 17 First Information Reports (FIRs). Additionally, legitimate mining activities have generated nearly Rs 9.69 crore in government revenue since May 21, 2026. These details were disclosed during a review meeting led by Yamunanagar Deputy Commissioner Preeti at the district secretariat, focusing on measures to curb illegal mining in the area.
Meeting Highlights
The meeting was attended by Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs), police officials, mining authorities, transport officials, representatives from the irrigation department, and other concerned departments. District Mining Officer Rajesh Kumar reported that mining operations in the district contributed Rs 9.68 crore to the state government during the review period. He also detailed enforcement actions against illegal mining, including the seizure of 62 vehicles and the filing of 17 criminal cases.
Directives from Deputy Commissioner
Deputy Commissioner Preeti instructed all departments to maintain strict vigilance and conduct regular inspections to prevent illegal mining and the unauthorized transportation of minerals. She ordered thorough verification of electronic transit permits (e-ravana) and directed officials to register FIRs and seize vehicles in all confirmed cases of illegal mining. Police officers were directed to ensure strict enforcement in their respective areas and take prompt action against violators.
Enhanced Monitoring and Coordination
The DC also instructed officials to strengthen monitoring at mining checkpoints by ensuring the proper functioning of CCTV cameras and other infrastructure. She ordered additional police deployment at sensitive checkpoints and increased activity of mobile enforcement teams. Emphasizing interdepartmental coordination, she stated that illegal mining could be effectively curbed through joint action by the Mining, Police, Transport, Sales Tax, and Panchayat departments, combined with greater use of technology and stricter enforcement measures.
