Kolkata: Tulika Das on Friday stepped down from her position as chairperson of the West Bengal Commission for Protection of Child Rights, ending her tenure after nearly two and a half years in office. She had submitted her resignation letter on Thursday, ahead of her scheduled term completion in December.
Resignation Submitted to Department
Das confirmed that she formally submitted her resignation to the Department of Women and Child Development and Social Welfare on Thursday. Reflecting on her tenure, she expressed satisfaction with her work and the team she collaborated with. "I have enjoyed my work with a good team. I have been sincere towards my duties and responsibilities," she stated.
Long Career in Child Rights
Before assuming the role of chairperson, Das dedicated 35 years to the child rights sector. She emphasized her continued commitment to the cause, saying, "I worked for 35 years in the child rights sector before becoming chairperson. I will continue my work."
Timing of Resignation
Das's resignation comes just days after actor-politician Agnimitra Paul was appointed as the Minister for Women and Child Development in West Bengal. The change in leadership at the ministerial level may have influenced her decision, though Das did not cite any specific reason for stepping down.
