In a proactive move to combat the escalating number of road accidents, the Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Prayagraj has launched an innovative awareness campaign at the ongoing Magh Mela. This initiative aims to draw public attention towards adopting essential safety measures to reduce the rising graph of road mishaps in the region.
Exhibition and Street Plays to Educate Masses
The RTO authorities have established a dedicated exhibition on the mela campus, designed to engage visitors with interactive displays and information on road safety rules and regulations. Complementing this, street plays are being conducted to dramatize the importance of safe driving practices, making the message more relatable and impactful for the diverse audience attending the Magh Mela.
Road Safety Month 2026 Celebrations
This campaign is part of the broader Road Safety Month 2026 celebrations, spearheaded by the transport department. Sanjeev Gupta, the RTO officer for the Prayagraj region, emphasized that the exhibition serves as a platform to promote awareness among the public, highlighting critical aspects of road safety that can prevent accidents.
Gupta further revealed that a vehicle simulator has been installed at the exhibition site for training purposes. This simulator allows visitors to experience realistic driving scenarios, helping them understand the consequences of negligent behavior on the roads. He added that the street plays are specifically crafted to educate people about road safety norms in an entertaining and memorable way, ensuring the message resonates with all age groups.
By leveraging the high footfall at the Magh Mela, the RTO hopes to reach a wide audience and instill a culture of safety among commuters and drivers alike. This initiative underscores the department's commitment to reducing road fatalities and injuries through community engagement and education.
