The Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) commissioner and chief census officer, Pradeep Dahiya, issued a stern warning on Friday against negligence in census-related responsibilities. He emphasized that any laxity or delays in performing these duties could lead to disciplinary action against the concerned employees.
Review Meeting Highlights
During a review meeting held at the MCG office, Dahiya assessed the progress of field surveys, employee attendance, and the overall pace of the census exercise. He directed various departments to register First Information Reports (FIRs) against employees found failing to meet deadlines. The field staff was urged to carry out census duties with complete responsibility and seriousness.
Regular Monitoring and Inspections
The commissioner has requested regular progress reports to aid in formulating frameworks for similar projects in the future. Joint commissioners have been instructed to conduct frequent inspections and visit sites to evaluate the status of census operations. These inspections are expected to focus on the quality of work, employee attendance, and effective communication with residents.
Legal Consequences for Negligence
Recently, the MCG recommended filing FIRs against 13 employees under Section 11 of the Census Act, 1948, for negligent performance of duties and absence from training programs. Under this act, any person refusing to carry out census duties or obstructing government work may face punitive action. If found guilty, the individual could be sentenced to imprisonment of up to three years.
This move underscores the MCG's commitment to ensuring the census is conducted efficiently and without compromise. Employees are expected to adhere strictly to deadlines and maintain high standards of work.
