Hindon Bridge Repairs to Disrupt Noida Traffic for 45 Days

The Greater Noida Authority has announced that the Hindon bridge connecting Parthala and Gaur Chowk, a vital corridor between Noida and Greater Noida West, will undergo urgent repairs over the next 45 days. This development is expected to cause significant traffic disruptions on one of the busiest routes in the region.

Bridge Deterioration and Repair Plan

The nearly 30-year-old bridge has experienced considerable deterioration of the road surface on both approaches, prompting the Authority to initiate mastic repairs. To facilitate the work, one lane on the Parthala-to-Gaur Chowk carriageway will be closed. Traffic will be diverted through the remaining two lanes until the first lane is restored, after which repairs will be undertaken sequentially on the second and third lanes.

A trial of the revised traffic arrangement was conducted on Monday, with repair work formally commencing from June 10 under work circle 7. Senior officials have confirmed that traffic police will be deployed in the area to manage peak-hour congestion.

Resident Concerns

Manish Kumar, a resident of Ecovillage 1 who uses the bridge daily to commute to Noida, expressed relief that repairs were finally underway. “The road developed rough patches over the years and made for a bumpy ride. The repairs were long due,” he said. However, many residents share concerns that funneling traffic from Parthala to Gaur Chowk through just two lanes, especially during evenings, will lead to massive tailbacks on the stretch.

CEO Ravi Kumar NG assured that traffic police would be deployed to manage peak-hour snarls.

Compounding Traffic Issues

The bridge closure adds to existing pressure points in the area. The construction of a six-lane underpass at Gaur Chowk has already imposed traffic restrictions on the Taj Highway on both sides of the intersection. For residents of Greater Noida West, these simultaneous disruptions are likely to exacerbate chaos at the intersection, which serves over five lakh residents and handles traffic from Noida, Surajpur, Crossings Republik, and the Delhi-Meerut Expressway.

Punit Kohli, a resident of Saya Zion in Gaur City, noted that the roundabout already experiences delays of 30 to 40 minutes during peak hours. “The additional restrictions at Hindon bridge will slow things down further,” he said.

Sumil Jalota, a resident of La Residentia, emphasized that the two simultaneous diversions would mean longer travel times. “There is already heavy traffic at this spot during peak hours. The diversion at two locations will further choke the area. Ideally, they should conduct the road repair works at night or in non-peak hours,” he suggested.
