High-Level Meeting Charts the Course
The crucial decision emerged from a high-level meeting chaired by the UT Deputy Commissioner on Friday, December 19, 2025. The gathering saw the participation of key officials, including the Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic), along with representatives from the Municipal Corporation and the State Transport Authority.
The primary agenda was clear: to devise a system for streamlining tourist bus parking. The unanimous goal is to significantly reduce vehicular congestion and ensure a smoother flow of traffic across Chandigarh, enhancing the experience for both residents and visitors.
Potential Locations and Proposed Amenities
During the discussions, two specific sites were evaluated as potential hubs for parking these large vehicles. The locations under active consideration are in Hallomajra and Manimajra, situated within Sector 13.
The Municipal Corporation has been tasked with a set of important responsibilities:
- Determining and fixing appropriate daily parking charges for the buses.
- Exploring the introduction of monthly parking passes for regular operators.
- Ensuring that basic civic amenities, such as water and toilet facilities, are available at the identified sites for the convenience of bus drivers and tourists.
Strict Enforcement and Timely Action
To make this initiative effective, the State Transport Authority has been instructed to maintain a strict vigil. Officials are to closely monitor and penalise any instances of unauthorised parking by tourist buses, issuing challans under the relevant legal provisions.
A strong emphasis was placed on the strict enforcement of the High Court's directions. All concerned departments were directed to maintain close coordination and expedite the entire process. They have also been asked to submit progress reports within a stipulated timeframe to ensure timely compliance.
