The Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) of Punjab Police, in a coordinated operation with central agencies and Tripura Police, apprehended Aditya alias Makhan, one of the shooters involved in the murder of kabaddi promoter Kanwar Digvijay Singh, also known as Rana Balachauria.
Arrest in Agartala
Aditya alias Makhan was arrested from Agartala in Tripura, confirmed Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Monday. The accused, a resident of Amritsar, has at least 14 criminal cases registered against him, including murder, attempt to murder, extortion, armed robbery, and offenses under the NDPS and Arms Act.
Previous Arrests
A few months ago, police arrested two other shooters — Karan Pathak alias Karan Defaulter and Tarandeep Singh — along with their associate Akashdeep from Howrah in West Bengal. With the arrest of Aditya, all accused in the sensational murder case have been taken into custody.
The Murder
The assailants shot dead Rana Balachauria during a kabaddi tournament in Sohana village on December 15, 2025. Six persons, including three shooters, have been arrested in connection with the case. Two other accused, Aishdeep Singh and Davinder, were arrested earlier for providing logistical support to the shooters.
Operation Shadow Hunt
Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) AGTF Promod Ban stated that police received inputs about Makhan's whereabouts from a secret source. Acting on the information, an inter-state operation codenamed 'Shadow Hunt' was launched. A police team under the supervision of DSP Rajan Parminder Singh was dispatched to Agartala, where the accused was successfully apprehended with the support of central agencies and local police.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said that Aditya alias Makhan and his aides executed the killing on the directions of foreign-based handlers. 'While his accomplices were apprehended by the AGTF, Aditya had been evading arrest until now,' said the DGP. He added that with this arrest, all the accused involved in the murder case have been arrested.
