Bharatiya Janata Party's Member of Parliament from Udaipur, Mannalal Rawat, has formally approached Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla with serious allegations against fellow parliamentarian, a state legislator, and a senior bureaucrat. The complaint centers on a district development coordination meeting in Dungarpur that Rawat claims was deliberately derailed.
Allegations of Conspiracy and Disruption
In his letter dated Wednesday, the first-time BJP MP accused Bharat Adivasi Party's Banswara MP Rajkumar Roat and Aspur MLA Umesh Damor, along with Dungarpur District Collector Ankit Kumar Singh, of conspiring to disrupt a District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting. This crucial gathering was held on December 29 in Dungarpur to review the implementation of Union and state government schemes in Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP) areas.
Rawat asserted that the discussion quickly strayed from the officially approved agenda. He alleged the forum was misused "to put the state government in the dock and turn it into a political platform." The MP highlighted that the district collector, who served as the meeting's secretary, failed in his duty to maintain order and keep the proceedings on track.
Confrontation and Claims of Intimidation
The situation escalated when Rawat intervened. He stated that after repeated deviations, he reminded members of the rules, presented the agenda, and requested adherence to it. This insistence, according to his account, triggered a direct confrontation.
Rawat alleged that presiding MP Rajkumar Roat reacted sharply. "Instead of following procedure, the presiding MP attempted to threaten and silence me in a packed meeting," Rawat wrote in his complaint. He further accused MLA Umesh Damor of "intimidation and unruly behaviour," arguing that such conduct undermines fundamental democratic norms and the purpose of official review mechanisms.
Call for Inquiry and Action
Labeling the entire episode an "attempt to hijack the official review process," Mannalal Rawat has urged Speaker Om Birla to initiate a thorough inquiry. He has specifically sought action against Roat, Damor, and Collector Singh for dereliction of duty under relevant sections.
The BJP MP's core demand is to ensure that future DISHA meetings "remain professional, rule-bound and focused on public welfare." This incident highlights the tensions that can surface in multi-party review committees, especially in regions with distinct political alignments, and raises questions about the conduct of development-focused governance forums.
