A tragic incident unfolded in Salem on Friday when a 37-year-old guest worker, who fainted during a rally for TVK leader Vijay, died of a heart attack while being rushed to a private hospital. The deceased has been identified as Suraj, a resident who had been working in a silver workshop in the city for many years.

According to police reports from the Annadhanapatty station, Suraj collapsed at the political gathering and was promptly taken to a private medical facility. "He was taken to a private hospital, but died on the way," stated a police officer, highlighting the urgency of the situation. Despite efforts to provide immediate care, the heart attack proved fatal during transit.
Suraj, who originally hailed from Maharashtra, had moved to Salem approximately 20 years ago and had settled there permanently. He is survived by his 32-year-old wife, Priyanka, as well as a daughter and a son, leaving behind a grieving family.

In response to the unfortunate event, TVK joint general secretary C T R Nirmalkumar issued a statement on X, confirming that first aid was administered to Suraj immediately after he fainted and that he was transported to the hospital in a timely manner. "But it is sad that Suraj died of heart attack. We express our deepest condolences on this unexpected death of young Suraj," Nirmalkumar wrote, emphasizing the party's sympathy.
Additionally, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K Selvaperunthagai extended his condolences to Suraj's family through a post on X. "His passing is an irreparable loss to his family, friends, and all who loved him," Selvaperunthagai remarked, acknowledging the profound impact of the loss on the community.
