A 26-year-old mathematics lecturer at a government inter college in Bareilly was discovered dead in his rented accommodation in the Izzatnagar area on Friday. A four-page note recovered from the room allegedly implicates his girlfriend and her brothers in a campaign of prolonged harassment.
Incident Details
The lecturer, a native of Suaraj village under Gorakhpur’s Gola police station limits, had been living in a rented room in Dhaurera Mafi village under Izzatnagar police station area. The matter came to light when his father, unable to reach him by phone, alerted the landlord. Upon opening the room, the lecturer was found hanging. Police and forensic teams arrived at the scene and initiated an investigation.
Suicide Note and Evidence
In the purported note, the lecturer alleged that his girlfriend and her brothers demanded money and threatened to implicate him in false criminal cases. Investigators noted that his phone contained multiple calls and messages exchanged with the woman. A police officer stated, “We are examining call detail records, messages, and the suicide note. Action will be taken based on the facts that emerge during the investigation.”
Postmortem and Family
The postmortem examination was conducted the same night, and the body was later handed over to the family. Police indicated that preliminary findings suggest the lecturer had been under prolonged mental distress. SSP Anurag Arya told TOI, “We are thoroughly probing the case.”
