Punjab AAP Government to Legally Scrutinize Supreme Court's Bail Order for SAD Leader Bikram Singh Majithia

He pointed out that the bail comes with several stringent conditions, and Majithia will still have to face the full legal trial. "We will examine it legally. If possible, we will file a review petition. We will analyse the basis on which bail was granted. There will be a trial and he will surely be sentenced," Cheema asserted, underscoring the government's commitment to ensuring justice is served.
Background of the Supreme Court's Bail Decision
The Supreme Court granted bail to Majithia on Monday in a high-profile disproportionate assets case, taking into account that he has been in judicial custody for the past seven months. Majithia was arrested by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau on June 25, 2025, and has remained in custody since then.
The case against him involves serious allegations of financial misconduct:
- Authorities have accused Majithia of laundering over Rs 540 crore of drug money.
- This alleged laundering was carried out through shell companies and benami transactions.
- The illicit activities are said to have occurred during his tenure as a minister from 2007 to 2017.
- A comprehensive 40,000-page chargesheet was filed against him on August 22, 2025, detailing the evidence.
Cheema's Comments on Dera Beas Chief's Jail Visit
When questioned about Dera Beas chief Baba Gurinder Dhillon's visit to Majithia in jail, Cheema offered a measured response. He noted that the Dera chief heads a large organization and suggested a probable familial or personal connection as the reason for the visit. "He is probably related to Majithia, and that is why he went to meet him," Cheema stated, without delving further into the matter.
