Punjab Governor Stresses Employment as Vital Tool Against Drug Menace

In a significant address at Seron village, Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria highlighted the critical link between job creation and the fight against drug abuse in the state. Speaking on Monday, he asserted that enhancing employment opportunities is essential to effectively curb the growing problem of drug addiction among Punjab's youth.

Foreign Conspiracy and Collective Action

Governor Kataria revealed that a neighboring country is actively conspiring to disrupt Punjab's social fabric through the smuggling of drugs and weapons. He assured that such attempts are being met with a robust and determined response from authorities. However, he emphasized that government efforts alone are insufficient to eradicate the drug menace.

Kataria called for collective participation from all segments of society, including parents, teachers, youth, common citizens, and the administration. He noted that public awareness against drugs is steadily increasing in Punjab and is beginning to transform into a widespread mass movement.

Unemployment as a Root Cause

The Governor identified unemployment and idleness as primary factors contributing to drug addiction. He explained that by engaging young people in gainful employment and constructive activities, they can be effectively steered away from this destructive social evil. This approach, he argued, addresses the underlying causes rather than merely treating the symptoms.

Role of Village Defence Committees

During the meeting, which was also attended by Punjab Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar, Governor Kataria underscored the importance of Village Defence Committees in the ongoing anti-drug campaign. He urged these committees to remain vigilant and actively monitor their villages to prevent drug-related activities.

He also sought suggestions from committee members to further strengthen the campaign, emphasizing the need for localized strategies and community involvement. The Governor's remarks reflect a comprehensive approach that combines economic development with security measures and societal engagement.

This initiative marks a concerted effort to tackle drug abuse through multi-faceted strategies, recognizing that sustainable solutions require addressing both economic disparities and external threats to state security.
