Prime Minister Narendra Modi Set to Launch Massive Infrastructure Projects in Kolkata

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate a series of development projects with a total value of Rs 18,680 crore during his Brigade rally in Kolkata on Saturday. This event marks the culmination of the Bharatiya Janata Party's extensive 5,000 km Parivartan Yatra across the region. The projects span critical sectors including road infrastructure, railways, ports, and shipping, aiming to boost connectivity and economic growth in West Bengal.

Strategic Meetings and Election Preparations

Ahead of his visit to Bengal, Prime Minister Modi held a crucial meeting with key Bengal BJP leaders at his residence in New Delhi on Thursday. The attendees included state BJP president Samik Bhattacharya, Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, and Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar. Sources indicate that the Prime Minister reviewed the probable candidate list for upcoming elections during this high-level discussion.

The Bengal BJP has been actively engaging with party workers over the past several months to gather feedback on potential candidates. Central leaders conducted hundreds of meetings, and feedback was solicited from nearly 10,000 party workers in each of the state's 294 constituencies. Following this extensive consultation process, a detailed survey was conducted, and the resulting report was submitted to the party's top leadership in New Delhi for final review and decision-making.

Major Road Infrastructure Initiatives

Prime Minister Modi will lay the foundation stone for numerous National Highway projects covering a combined length of more than 420 km. These projects include significant sections of NH 19, which connects Agra and Kolkata, traversing through Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal. Additionally, a section of NH 114, linking Mallarpur in Birbhum with Bardhaman, will be part of this initiative.

Furthermore, five financial packages will be announced for the 231 km Kharagpur-Moregram economic corridor. This corridor is expected to reduce travel distance by approximately 120 km and save nearly 7 to 8 hours of travel time, providing direct connectivity between Kharagpur and Moregram. The corridor will integrate with key National Highways such as NH 16, NH 19, NH 14, and NH 12, thereby enhancing multi-corridor connectivity across the region.

The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for the construction of a 5.6 km long four-lane Dubrajpur Bypass on NH 14, along with additional four-lane major bridges over the Kangshabati and Shilabati rivers. Collectively, these road infrastructure projects involve an estimated cost of around Rs 16,990 crore, representing a substantial investment in the state's transportation network.

Port and Railway Development Projects

In addition to road infrastructure, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for several shipping- and port-related projects. Key initiatives include the mechanisation project of Berth No 2 at the Haldia Dock Complex and the rejuvenation project at Khidderpore Docks. Development of the bascule bridge at the Kolkata Dock System and bank protection works along the Kolkata riverfront from the Howrah Bridge to Nimtala Ghat will also be undertaken to enhance port operations and safety.

On the railway front, the Prime Minister will flag off the Purulia-Anand Vihar Terminal Express, improving rail connectivity. He will also inaugurate six redeveloped railway stations under the Amrit Station Scheme, which includes Kamakhyaguri, Anara, Tamluk, Haldia, Barabhum, and Siuri. These redevelopments aim to modernize railway infrastructure and provide better amenities for passengers.

Prime Minister's Schedule and Public Engagement

Prime Minister Modi announced his travel plans via his official X handle, stating, "I will be in Assam and Bengal over the next 2 days to attend programmes in Kokrajhar, Guwahati, Silchar, and Kolkata. These programmes will present a wonderful opportunity to interact with the people of these states. Various development works will also be inaugurated." This visit underscores the government's focus on engaging with citizens and accelerating development in eastern India.

The inauguration of these projects is expected to have a transformative impact on West Bengal's infrastructure, fostering economic growth and improving the quality of life for residents. The BJP's Parivartan Yatra and these development initiatives are strategically timed ahead of the electoral season, highlighting the party's commitment to progress and governance in the state.
