Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak on Saturday paid rich tributes to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, describing the Bharat Ratna awardee as an 'ajaatshatru' in the world of politics, a leader who had no political enemies.
Vajpayee's Unparalleled Statesmanship Recalled
Addressing the Atal Smriti Sammelan held at the Lucknow Municipal Corporation auditorium, Pathak emphasized that Vajpayee's acceptance transcended party lines. He noted that even ideological opponents respected and acknowledged the former PM's views. Pathak stated that Vajpayee shared a deep and special connection with the city of Lucknow, which he represented in Parliament.
The event was organized as a key part of the ongoing birth centenary celebrations for the late leader. Pathak highlighted Vajpayee's unwavering commitment to good governance and the welfare of the poor. He portrayed him as a true statesman whose conduct in both political and social spheres established high benchmarks that contemporary leaders still strive to achieve.
A Poet, Patriot, and Coalition Builder
Pathak elaborated on Vajpayee's multifaceted personality, recalling his contributions as a poet, journalist, and politician. He spoke about Vajpayee's early life, mentioning that during his student days in Gwalior, he began writing poetry against British colonial rule. Even after being sent to Agra, Vajpayee continued his literary and nationalist pursuits, consistently working to free the country from colonial influence and strengthen national consciousness.
Discussing Vajpayee's pivotal role in national politics, Pathak credited him for bringing together multiple political parties to form the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and providing the nation with a stable government. His ability to maintain social harmony despite deep ideological differences earned him recognition not just in India but on the global stage as well.
Call to Follow Vajpayee's Ideals
Pathak urged the public and political figures to make concerted efforts to follow Vajpayee's ideals in public life. He also mentioned that the central government, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is implementing various schemes aimed at inclusive development. The focus, he said, is on ensuring these schemes reach all eligible beneficiaries and that welfare programmes are properly monitored.
The programme saw the presence of several dignitaries including Lucknow Mayor Sushma Kharakwal, BJP regional vice-president Amit Gupta, BJP mahanagar vice-president Ghanshyam Gupta, councillor Man Singh, and other elected representatives.
