Parth Pawar Tops Asset List in Maharashtra Rajya Sabha Contest

In the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections from Maharashtra, NCP candidate Parth Pawar, aged 35, has declared total assets worth Rs 87 crore, positioning him as the wealthiest among the seven candidates fielded by major political parties. This information comes from their official election affidavits, which detail financial holdings and liabilities.

Comparative Wealth Among Candidates

Following Parth Pawar, the second richest candidate is Sharad Pawar, 86, from a rival NCP faction, with assets valued at Rs 60 crore. In contrast, Shiv Sena's Jyoti Waghmare reports the lowest assets among the group, totaling Rs 32 lakh. The affidavits also reveal that Parth Pawar, the grandnephew of Sharad Pawar, has no pending criminal cases against him.

Asset Growth and Historical Context

Parth Pawar's financial portfolio has seen significant growth over recent years. During the 2019 parliamentary election, which he contested unsuccessfully, his assets were recorded at Rs 10.8 crore. For the current Rajya Sabha race, he has declared assets of Rs 88.3 crore, with liabilities of Rs 92 lakh, primarily in the form of loans. His assets include a Rs 2 crore loan extended to others, a bank balance of Rs 2.11 crore, investments in shares and bonds worth Rs 2.5 crore, and various land parcels.

Sharad Pawar's assets have also increased substantially, rising from Rs 31.7 crore in 2020 to Rs 60 crore, marking an approximate 89% growth over six years. Other notable candidates include BJP's Ramrao Wadkute, 72, with assets of Rs 5.6 crore, and Maya Ivnate of the BJP, who declared Rs 3.8 crore in assets, similar to her previous declaration in the Nagpur civic election.

Additional Candidate Details

BJP leader Vinod Tawde reported assets of Rs 31.8 crore, a significant jump from Rs 6.8 crore in 2014 when he won an assembly election from Borivli. RPI (A) leader and Union minister Ramdas Athawale's assets grew by 38% over six years, from Rs 6.4 crore in 2020 to Rs 8.9 crore currently. The election is scheduled for March 16, with the seven major candidates expected to secure seats based on party and alliance strengths, though independent candidates Sayanna Kante and Umesh Mhetre have also filed nominations.

Total assets are calculated by deducting liabilities from declared assets. In 2019, Parth Pawar's declared assets were Rs 20 crore, with liabilities of Rs 9.3 crore, consisting of loans from his mother, Sunetra Pawar, now deputy chief minister, and his brother Jai Pawar.
