The Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) has announced plans to hold a "Jan Akrosh Rally" in Sambalpur on Wednesday, which it intends to use as a launchpad for a statewide agitation over alleged irregularities in the education system.
Rally Details and Participants
Addressing a press conference, OPCC president Bhakta Charan Das said Sambalpur has been chosen as the focal point of the protest because it is a key centre of higher education. He stated that the rally's impact is expected to extend to neighbouring districts such as Sundargarh and Kalahandi. NSUI national in-charge Kanhaiya Kumar and its national president Varun Choudhary are scheduled to participate in the rally.
Demands and Accusations
Congress and NSUI leaders demanded the resignation of Union education minister and Sambalpur MP Dharmendra Pradhan, holding him accountable for alleged lapses in the conduct and management of national examinations. Raising the issue of alleged question paper leaks across the country, the leaders questioned the lack of action against those responsible and stressed the need for stronger safeguards to ensure transparency and credibility in the exam process.
The rally is being seen as a significant move by the Congress party to galvanize public opinion against the ruling government on education-related matters. The OPCC president emphasized that the party would continue its agitation until the demands are met.
