Nitish Kumar Applauds Union Budget 2026 as Progressive and Forward-Looking

Patna Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday described the Union Budget as progressive and forward-looking, asserting that it would significantly contribute to realizing the vision of Viksit Bharat or a developed India. In a detailed post on social media platform X, Kumar praised the budgetary provisions, stating they were meticulously crafted with the nation's developmental goals in mind.

Budget Aligns with National Development Goals

The Budget is positive and welcome, Kumar remarked in his Hindi post. He emphasized that the Union government has presented this budget keeping in mind the overarching objective of building a developed India. Through this Budget, the Centre has undertaken several crucial steps to accelerate the country's developmental pace, he added. Kumar extended his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for presenting what he termed an excellent Budget.

Key Infrastructure Projects for Bihar

Kumar highlighted specific announcements in the Budget that are poised to benefit Bihar substantially. Notably, the construction of seven high-speed rail corridors across the country was announced, with the Varanasi-Siliguri corridor expected to greatly advantage Bihar. Additionally, the creation of 20 new national waterways will include ship repair facilities in Patna and Varanasi, enhancing export capabilities and boosting commercial activities in the state.

Employment and Economic Development Initiatives

The Budget also announced the establishment of large textile parks nationwide and the Mahatma Gandhi Self-Employment Scheme. A significant allocation of Rs 40,000 crore for semiconductors was highlighted, which Kumar believes will generate new employment opportunities for youth across India, including Bihar, and propel economic development at a faster rate.

Focus on Purvodaya States and Urban Development

Kumar noted that the Budget places special emphasis on Purvodaya states and the North-Eastern region to accelerate development and employment. This focus is expected to bring industrial investment, infrastructure development, and more job opportunities for Bihar's youth. Furthermore, provisions for urban development in the Budget are set to give new momentum to urbanization in Bihar, expanding infrastructure, investment, and employment in the state's cities.

Support for Girls' Education

In a move aimed at promoting higher education for girls, the Budget announced the construction of one girls' hostel in every district across the country. Kumar emphasized that this initiative will greatly facilitate girls in pursuing higher education, marking a significant step towards educational equity and empowerment.
