In a heartfelt tribute to a towering figure in Indian politics, Chamaraja MLA K Harishgowda on Sunday highlighted the profound contributions of former deputy prime minister Babu Jagjivan Ram to nation-building and the welfare of the people. The event, held at Kalamandir in Mysuru, marked the 119th birth anniversary of Jagjivan Ram, drawing attention to his enduring legacy.

Celebrating a Stalwart's Achievements

Presiding over the celebrations, Harishgowda emphasized that Jagjivan Ram had successfully handled key Union ministries, including defence and agriculture, before ascending to the position of deputy prime minister. "His leadership in these critical portfolios laid a strong foundation for India's progress," Harishgowda remarked, underscoring the former leader's multifaceted role in shaping the nation.

MLC D Thimmaiah, who inaugurated the event, spoke passionately about Jagjivan Ram's efforts to promote inter-caste marriages and build an equal, discrimination-free society. He recounted how Jagjivan Ram worked alongside Mahatma Gandhi during the freedom struggle to liberate the country from colonial rule, highlighting his early commitment to social justice.
