Mumbai witnessed a significant leadership change in its maritime security forces on Monday. Additional Director General MV Pathak officially took over as the Coast Guard Commander for the Western Seaboard. The assumption of charge occurred during a ceremonial parade held in the city, marking a formal transition in command.
A Veteran Officer Steps into a Key Role
ADG MV Pathak is no stranger to the Indian Coast Guard. He first joined the service in July 1989, embarking on a career that has spanned more than three decades. Over these years, he has built an impressive record of service and expertise.
Extensive Command Experience
One of his notable achievements is the distinction of having commanded all classes of Coast Guard ships. This hands-on experience across various vessel types provides him with a deep, operational understanding of maritime patrols, search and rescue missions, and coastal defense operations.
Prior to this new appointment, ADG Pathak served as the Deputy Director General for the Coast Guard Service Board in New Delhi. In that role, he was involved in strategic planning and policy formulation at the national level. His move to Mumbai represents a shift back to a more operational and region-specific command position.
Recognition and Awards
The Flag officer's dedication and service have been formally recognized. He is the recipient of two prestigious awards: the President Tatrakshak Medal and the Tatrakshak Medal. These honors are awarded for distinguished service, exceptional devotion to duty, and acts of courage within the Indian Coast Guard.
His appointment comes at a time when maritime security along India's western coast remains a critical priority. The Western Seaboard, with its busy shipping lanes and vital ports, requires vigilant oversight and robust defense mechanisms.
Local residents and maritime stakeholders in Mumbai are likely to follow developments under his command closely. The ceremonial parade not only formalized his new role but also served as a public demonstration of the Coast Guard's ongoing commitment to safeguarding India's coastal waters.
