Honoring Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's Legacy
President Murmu specifically highlighted the pivotal role of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in unifying the nation. She noted that last year, on October 31, the country enthusiastically celebrated his 150th birth anniversary, with commemorative events continuing to strengthen the spirit of national unity and pride. "From north to south and from east to west, the fabric of our ancient cultural unity was woven by our ancestors," she stated, praising all efforts that promote this sense of oneness.
Celebrating 150 Years of 'Vande Mataram'
In addition to Patel's contributions, President Murmu spoke about the celebrations marking 150 years since the composition of India's national song, 'Vande Mataram'. These festivities began on November 7 of the previous year and have been a focal point in honoring the song's historical and cultural significance.
She paid tribute to poet Subramanya Bharati, who composed the Tamil version "Vande Mataram Yenbom," meaning "Let us chant Vande Mataram." This adaptation, she explained, connected the masses on a larger scale with the spirit of the song. Translations into other Indian languages gained popularity, with Sri Aurobindo's English translation being particularly notable. President Murmu described 'Vande Mataram' as "our lyrical national prayer," originally composed by the venerable Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay.
