Mayawati Rejects Alliance Rumors, Vows BSP Will Contest 2027 UP Elections Alone
Mayawati: BSP to Contest 2027 UP Elections Alone, No Alliances

Mayawati Firmly Rejects Alliance Speculations for 2027 UP Elections

In a definitive statement, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has reiterated that her party will not form any alliance with other political entities for the upcoming 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. She emphasized that the BSP will contest the polls solely on its own strengths and organizational capabilities.

Dismissal of Alliance Buzz as 'Fake News'

Mayawati took to her official X account to address what she termed as 'fake news' being propagated by certain media sections regarding potential alliances. She cautioned her party cadre against being swayed by such rumors, urging them to remain steadfast and unaffected, much like the elephant—the BSP's symbol.

"As elections approach, such baseless rumors will intensify," Mayawati stated. "I advise all BSP members to only trust statements issued by the party's central leadership and disregard speculative reports."

Rebuttal to Akhilesh Yadav's Claims

Mayawati's clarification is widely viewed as a direct rebuttal to Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav's recent remarks about the longstanding ties between the SP and BSP. Yadav made these comments following the induction of former Mayawati confidant Naseemuddin Siddiqui into the SP earlier this week. Siddiqui had previously switched allegiance to the Congress before joining the SP.

Without explicitly naming any party, Mayawati accused her political opponents of circulating alliance rumors in a deliberate attempt to wean away Dalit voters from the BSP. She asserted that the Congress, SP, and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) hold ideologies contrary to the principles of Babasaheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar.

"These parties seek alliances with the Ambedkarite BSP purely for electoral and political gains, specifically to secure Dalit votes," Mayawati explained. "However, any such alliance only damages the BSP's integrity and objectives."

Historical Context and Electoral Strategy

Mayawati reminded the public and media that she has consistently declared, including through public forums, that the BSP will contest the UP elections independently. She highlighted the party's massive rally in Lucknow on October 9 last year, where this stance was unequivocally announced, stating that there should be no further debate on the matter.

The BSP and SP had formed an alliance for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh. Under this arrangement, the BSP contested 38 seats, winning 10, while the SP contested 37 seats, securing 5 victories. Although the BSP's tally improved from zero seats in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections to 10 seats in 2019, with a 19.2% vote share, Mayawati has since expressed dissatisfaction with the non-transfer of votes from alliance partners to BSP candidates.

To substantiate her reluctance towards alliances, Mayawati cited past electoral experiences:

  • In the 1993 UP Assembly elections, the BSP-SP alliance resulted in the BSP winning only 67 seats.
  • During the 1996 UP elections, an alliance with the Congress yielded a similar outcome of 67 seats for the BSP.
  • Contrastingly, in the 2007 UP elections, the BSP contested alone and achieved a majority government by securing 206 out of 403 seats, with over 30.4% of the votes.

Personal and Security Concerns

Mayawati also referenced the June 2, 1995, guest house incident in Lucknow, where she was attacked by SP supporters after the BSP severed ties with the SP. This event has significantly influenced her cautious approach towards alliances.

During the October 9 rally in Lucknow, Mayawati accused the subsequent SP government of misappropriating revenue generated from ticket sales at Dalit memorials constructed during her tenure, alleging that these funds were not utilized for maintenance purposes.

She further criticized Akhilesh Yadav for what she described as superficial tributes to Dalit icons and claimed that he ignored her phone calls after the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, when she terminated the alliance to uphold the BSP's "honour."

Allotment of Bungalow in Delhi

In a related development, Mayawati disclosed that the Modi government has allotted her a new Type 8 bungalow in Delhi, acknowledging her status as a former chief minister and BSP chief. She noted that this allocation came after a prolonged wait.

However, Mayawati urged the public to remain vigilant against rumors aimed at damaging the party and misleading supporters. She recounted that following the 1995 guest house incident, the then Congress-led central government had enhanced her security measures, a necessity that has only escalated over the years.

"Initially, I was allotted a Type 8 bungalow by the Congress government," Mayawati shared. "Subsequently, the Modi government provided other bungalows, but due to security concerns, I either did not take possession or vacated them shortly after."

Mayawati's statements underscore her commitment to maintaining the BSP's independent identity and electoral strategy, rooted in historical experiences and a focus on safeguarding Dalit interests.
