Fire Engulfs Workers Settlement Near Udyog Bhawan
A massive fire erupted at a workers' settlement near Udyog Bhawan in Delhi on Thursday, sending thick plumes of smoke into the sky and prompting a large-scale firefighting operation. The blaze broke out in the late afternoon, affecting several makeshift structures in the densely populated area.
Firefighting Teams Deployed
According to Delhi Fire Service officials, at least 15 fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the flames. The fire quickly spread due to the congested layout and the presence of flammable materials. Firefighters worked to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby buildings.
No Casualties Reported
Initial reports indicate that no casualties have been reported so far. Residents were evacuated from the area as a precautionary measure. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and an investigation has been ordered.
Eyewitness Accounts
Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic as the fire rapidly engulfed the settlement. "We saw flames and smoke rising, and everyone started running out. The fire brigade arrived quickly, but the fire was very intense," said a local resident. The settlement primarily housed migrant workers and their families.
Official Response
Delhi Fire Service Chief Atul Garg stated, "We received a call around 4:30 PM and immediately dispatched fire tenders. The fire is now under control, and cooling operations are underway. No injuries have been reported." The area has been cordoned off, and relief measures are being arranged for the affected families.
