Tragic Accident Shatters Delhi Family: Mother and Son Killed on Journey from Dehradun
In a heart-wrenching incident, a Delhi-based family has been left in mourning after a fatal accident claimed the lives of Neelam Garg, a 55-year-old homemaker, and her 28-year-old son Deepanshu. The tragedy unfolded as they were returning from Dehradun, where they had gone to visit Deepanjali, Neelam's daughter and Deepanshu's sister.
Family's Agonizing Wait Outside Hospital Mortuary
On Thursday, outside the mortuary at Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital in Delhi, relatives of Neelam Garg and her daughter Deepanjali gathered in somber silence. Some sat on the pavement, while others paced restlessly, struggling to come to terms with the sudden and devastating loss. The family, originally hailing from Sarola village in Haryana, has been settled in Delhi for decades, where they built both their business and their life.
Neelam resided in Rohini's Sector 7 with her husband Rajender, a rice trader based in Naya Bazar, their son Deepanshu, and his wife Sonali. Deepanshu worked closely with his father, helping manage the family's thriving rice trading business, which had been a cornerstone of their livelihood in the city.
Deepanjali's Life in Dehradun and Family Bonds
Deepanjali, affectionately known as Deepti among friends and family, had moved to Dehradun after marrying Anshul, a property businessman, approximately six years ago. A dedicated homemaker, she is survived by her two young sons, Vivan and Vashu, aged five and three. Relatives recounted how Deepanjali maintained a strong connection to her parental home in Delhi, frequently visiting with her children to spend quality time with her family.
Surendra Kumar Mittal, Neelam's brother, shared through tears, "Deepanshu got married only last year, and the family was eagerly looking forward to the couple spending their first Holi together with Deepti and her sons." This festive anticipation turned to sorrow when Neelam and Deepanshu embarked on their journey to Dehradun on Wednesday to bring Deepanjali and her children back to Delhi for the celebrations.
Details of the Fatal Journey and Aftermath
The ill-fated trip began with Neelam and Deepanshu leaving for Dehradun. After a brief rest at Deepanjali's home, they started their return journey to Delhi around 2 am. Tragically, the accident occurred en route, cutting short their lives and leaving the family in shock.
Rajender, who suffers from hypertension, has been described as inconsolable since receiving the news. He made frantic calls to relatives around 7 am to inform them about the accident. Mittal and other family members rushed from Panipat to Delhi, while Anshul and his father immediately set out from Dehradun upon hearing the tragic update.
Family's Profound Grief and Shattered Lives
The elderly Rajender now finds himself mourning the loss of his wife and daughter, while his son and grandsons remain hospitalized, adding to the family's anguish. Loved ones expressed that a journey the family had undertaken countless times has now irrevocably altered their lives forever.
A close friend of Deepanshu, standing outside the hospital, somberly noted, "The family has been completely shattered." As they waited for the bodies to be taken home, the atmosphere was heavy with grief, highlighting the deep impact of this sudden tragedy on the close-knit family.
This incident underscores the fragility of life and the profound emotional toll such accidents take on families, leaving behind a legacy of sorrow and unanswered questions.
