Delhi Chief Minister Unveils Statue of RSS Founder K B Hedgewar
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated a statue of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) founder Keshav Baliram Hedgewar in the Shahdara area of east Delhi on Saturday. The unveiling ceremony was held at the Hedgewar Arogya Sansthan Hospital, commemorating the 100th anniversary year of the RSS, which was established on September 27, 1925, in Nagpur.
Statue as a Source of Inspiration
During the event, Chief Minister Gupta emphasized that the statue is not merely a memorial but a continuing source of inspiration. She stated that it embodies the principles of service, dedication, and the spirit of 'nation first'. "Installation of the statue of such a tall personality on the completion of 100 years of the RSS by the Delhi government is an immense source of inspiration for us," Gupta remarked.
She highlighted Hedgewar's vision and mission, noting that his approach to organizing society through character-building has laid a firm foundation for India's cultural awakening. According to Gupta, this has evolved into a strong and expansive organization dedicated to national service.
Hospital Expansion and Digital Healthcare Initiatives
In addition to the statue inauguration, Chief Minister Gupta announced significant plans for the Hedgewar Hospital. She revealed that the government will work towards extending the hospital by adding another floor to its building and equipping it with the latest medical machines in the coming days. The hospital has been serving the trans-Yamuna area for decades, and this expansion aims to enhance its healthcare services.
Gupta also informed attendees about the Delhi government's progress in digitizing healthcare. All Delhi government hospitals have now been fully digitized, with each patient having a digital health record. Online OPD appointment facilities have been introduced, and complete treatment histories can be accessed at the click of a button at any hospital. She expressed confidence that the statue of Dr. Hedgewar will inspire doctors and staff to work with renewed energy and a spirit of service.
Event Attendees and Historical Context
The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh, Shahdara MLA Sanjay Goyal, other BJP legislators, public representatives, doctors, paramedical staff, and citizens. The RSS, founded by Hedgewar—a physician from Maharashtra—started with one shakha (branch) and has grown into a vast organization across the country over the years.
Chief Minister Gupta concluded by reiterating the statue's role as a motivational symbol, encouraging continuous dedication to public service and national values.
