Delhi CM Expects Union Budget to Boost City Development

NEW DELHI: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta expressed strong confidence on Saturday that the upcoming Union Budget will significantly boost the city's comprehensive development plans. The Union Budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 is scheduled to be presented in Parliament on Sunday, marking a crucial moment for urban infrastructure and environmental initiatives across the capital.

Confidence in Central Support for Delhi's Growth

In an official statement, Chief Minister Gupta emphasized her belief that the Union Budget will actively support the ambitious goal of transforming Delhi into a fully developed metropolis. She highlighted the Central government's ongoing involvement in several key projects that are shaping the city's future landscape and improving the quality of life for its residents.

Infrastructure and Environmental Projects Receiving Central Assistance

The Chief Minister detailed specific areas where Central assistance is currently making a substantial impact. Significant financial support is being provided for critical environmental projects, including the comprehensive cleaning of the Yamuna River and the construction of advanced sewage treatment plants. These initiatives are essential for addressing long-standing pollution challenges and ensuring sustainable water management in the National Capital Region.

Furthermore, Gupta noted that the Central government continues to provide crucial financial participation in the expansion of upcoming phases of the Delhi Metro. This collaboration is instrumental in extending the reach of efficient public transportation, reducing traffic congestion, and promoting eco-friendly commuting options across the city.

Strengthening Transport Infrastructure Through Partnership

The partnership between the Central government and the Delhi government in Delhi Metro projects is significantly strengthening the capital's modern transport infrastructure, Gupta stated. She added that this cooperative approach ensures that the city's development receives consistent and reliable support from the Centre, facilitating smoother implementation of large-scale urban projects.

In such a scenario, it is natural to expect that the forthcoming Union Budget will provide fresh momentum to the overall development of Delhi and further strengthen the vision of Viksit Delhi alongside Viksit Bharat, she remarked. This expectation reflects a broader alignment between local development objectives and national growth strategies.

Advancements in Clean Energy Initiatives

The Chief Minister also highlighted the effective implementation of Central government schemes aimed at promoting solar energy within Delhi. Initiatives such as the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojna are providing a new direction for clean energy adoption and environmental conservation in metropolitan areas like Delhi.

These programs are not only reducing the city's carbon footprint but also encouraging residents to transition towards renewable energy sources, contributing to a greener and more sustainable urban environment. Gupta's remarks underscore the multifaceted approach to development, combining infrastructure expansion with environmental stewardship.
