Congress Leader Condemns 'Love Jihad' Label as Political Tool in Hubballi
Congress functionary Rajat Ullagaddimath issued a strong condemnation on Sunday regarding recent incidents in Hubballi, alleging that personal disputes are being deliberately rebranded as 'love jihad' to incite communal tension and polarise voters ahead of crucial byelections.
Allegations of Coordinated Political Strategy
In a detailed press release, Ullagaddimath asserted that these incidents are not isolated criminal cases but rather part of a coordinated "tool kit" employed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to disturb Hubballi's long-standing peace and harmony. He emphasized that the city's social fabric is being targeted for political gain.
The Congress leader specifically alleged that these manufactured incidents are designed to influence the upcoming byelections in Bagalkot and Davanagere constituencies. By creating a climate of fear and division in Hubballi, certain political elements hope to reap electoral benefits in neighbouring areas, he explained.
Direct Accusations Against BJP Figures
Ullagaddimath did not mince words in his accusations, stating: "We hold BJP MLA Mahesh Tenginakai and Pramod Muthalik responsible for fuelling these flames. We urge the citizens of Hubballi not to fall prey to these provocative tactics. Hubballi has always been a symbol of brotherhood, and we must not allow the political ambitions of a few to destroy our social fabric."
Call for Administrative Action
The Congress functionary made a direct appeal to authorities, adding: "We call upon the district administration and the police commissioner to take stringent action against those who are taking the law into their own hands and those political leaders who are instigating mobs. The peace of Hubballi cannot be sacrificed for the sake of an election tool kit."
Ullagaddimath's statement highlights growing concerns about political manipulation of social issues in Karnataka, particularly as election season approaches. The allegations suggest a deliberate strategy to transform personal conflicts into communal flashpoints for electoral advantage.
