The Assam State Drivers Union has called off its proposed protest, which was scheduled for June 10. The decision came after the union cited attempts by certain individuals to create confusion and division within the driver community.
Protest Details
The protest was planned to be held outside the office of the transport commissioner. It was intended to highlight various issues concerning the rights and welfare of drivers across the state. According to the union's president, Dhrubaraj Axom, the agitation aimed to draw the attention of authorities to long-standing grievances faced by commercial drivers and to seek appropriate measures to address them.
Union's Assurance
While the proposed protest was called off, Axom assured that the fight has not been abandoned. He stated that a new programme would be organised later this month to continue advocating for drivers' rights.
The union's decision reflects a strategic move to regroup and plan a more effective approach, avoiding any potential disruptions caused by divisive elements. The driver community remains united in their demands for better working conditions and welfare measures.
