Assam and Arunachal Pradesh Officials Coordinate for Peaceful Assembly Elections
In a significant move to bolster inter-state cooperation, district administrations from Lakhimpur in Assam and Papum Pare in Arunachal Pradesh convened a coordination meeting on Monday. The gathering took place at the circle officer’s office in Banderdewa, focusing on ensuring peaceful and orderly polling ahead of the upcoming Assam assembly elections along the border regions.
Key Discussions on Law and Order Management
Senior officials from both states engaged in detailed deliberations on critical aspects of election preparedness. The agenda included robust law and order management, enhanced surveillance mechanisms, prevention of illegal movement of liquor and contraband, regulation of vehicular traffic, and seamless coordination among various enforcement agencies. This proactive approach aims to mitigate potential disruptions during the electoral process.
Emphasis on Joint Action and Information Sharing
Lakhimpur District Commissioner Pranab Jit Kakoty underscored the necessity of joint action during the election period. He stated, "Close coordination between our administrations is essential to ensure that the elections are conducted in a free, fair, and peaceful manner. We are committed to working together with our counterparts in Arunachal Pradesh to maintain law and order along the border." Echoing this sentiment, Deputy Commissioner of Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) Toko Babu highlighted the centrality of information sharing. He remarked, "Timely exchange of intelligence and joint operational strategies will be crucial in preventing any attempts to vitiate the electoral atmosphere. Our teams will work in close coordination to ensure that the border areas remain peaceful and secure."
Attendance and Concerns Raised
The meeting was attended by senior police officials, including Gunendra Deka, Senior Superintendent of Police for Lakhimpur, Jummar Basar, SP for Itanagar Capital Region, and Nyelam Nega, SP for Naharlagun, along with other officials from both states. During the discussions, officials flagged specific concerns regarding the illegal movement of liquor and other contraband across the inter-state border during the election period, emphasizing the need for stringent measures to curb such activities.
This coordination effort reflects a concerted push by Assam and Arunachal Pradesh to foster a secure environment for voters, ensuring that the democratic process proceeds without hindrance in the border areas.
