Army Thwarts Infiltration Attempt, Neutralizes Senior LeT Operative in Rajouri
In a significant counter-infiltration operation, alert Indian Army personnel successfully gunned down a Pakistan-sponsored terrorist along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district. The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, has been confirmed by officials who revealed that the slain ultra was a senior operative of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) launchpad module.
Identification and Recovery of Evidence
During a thorough combing operation at the site in Jhangar, Nowshera, troops recovered the terrorist's ID card, identifying him as Hamza Yousaf, a resident of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). According to a senior official, Yousaf was attempting to sneak into India along with an associate when the encounter took place. "His associate managed to cross back to Pakistan during Tuesday's gun battle," the official stated, highlighting the ongoing threats along the volatile border.
The Army also seized a substantial cache of arms and ammunition from the firefight location. This included:
- An AK-type rifle with two magazines
- Two pistols with four magazines
- 58 rounds of ammunition
- Three hand grenades
Additional items recovered were a mobile set, two SIM cards, a wallet, and Pakistani currency, further corroborating the cross-border nature of the infiltration bid.
Enhanced Security Measures and Previous Incidents
A defense spokesperson emphasized that troops have been reoriented to ensure relentless domination of the area. This strategy is supported by integrated ground and aerial surveillance, maintaining a robust operational posture and heightened alert across the sector to prevent future attempts.
This operation is part of a series of successful counter-infiltration efforts by the Army in recent months. Earlier this month, on March 4, troops foiled an infiltration bid by a group of terrorists along the LoC in Rajouri district. Prior to that, in February, soldiers thwarted another attempt in the Nathua Tibba area of Sunderbani on February 19, with arms and ammunition recovered during a subsequent search the following day.
Context and Implications
The elimination of Hamza Yousaf underscores the persistent challenges posed by Pakistan-sponsored terrorism in the region. As a senior operative of LeT's launchpad module, his role was specifically tasked with pushing armed terrorists into India from launching pads in his area, making his neutralization a critical blow to the terror network's infiltration capabilities.
The continued vigilance and proactive measures by the Indian Army reflect a steadfast commitment to securing the border and safeguarding national security against such threats.
